Had a loss at your building? Here's what to do

Your insurance company handles and pays claims, but you don't have to figure it out alone.

  1. 1

    Make it safe

If anyone is in danger, call 911 first. Then do what's reasonable to keep the damage from getting worse, like shutting off water.

  2. 2

    Document everything

Take photos and video of the damage before cleanup. Keep damaged items until the adjuster says otherwise.

  3. 3

    Report it promptly

Call your insurance company's claims line (it's on your policy) and report the loss as soon as you can. Write down the claim number.

  4. 4

    Keep receipts

Save receipts for emergency repairs, cleanup and tenant relocation costs.

  5. 5

    Talk to us

Email us with the claim number and what happened. We'll help you understand the process and stay on top of it with your insurance company.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Your policy and your insurance company's instructions control how a claim is handled.
